Now that we’ve finished shooting our 2024 She Means Business Campaign, we are going to be featuring some fearless and inspiring women in business in Las Vegas over the next few months!
First up - meet Val Bassi, a remarkable woman with a heart full of courage and a mind full of determination. At 55, she’s the powerhouse behind Onyx Medical Business, LLC, a healthcare billing, credentialing, and new practice setup firm. But her journey wasn’t paved with ease. It began 13 years ago when Val made the brave decision to quit her stable 9-to-5 job and start a business of her own.
Val’s first year in business was a challenge. With little experience, clients were hesitant, and financial hardships started to weigh heavily. It was a test of her resilience, made even harder by a difficult marriage. “Being married to a narcissist didn’t help my self-esteem,” she admits. The same year she launched her business, Val chose to end her marriage—a decision that took every ounce of strength she had. As she navigated through divorce and the slow growth of her business, self-doubt crept in, and at times, she felt ready to give up.
But one pivotal conversation with her father changed everything. “He looked at me and said, ‘Sherni Banke,’” Val recalls, her voice filled with emotion. In Punjabi, it means “Be a Lioness.” That moment lit a fire inside her. Her father’s words reminded her of who she truly was—fearless, strong, and born to thrive. From that day forward, Val became unstoppable. With the spirit of a lioness, she fought for her dreams, building Onyx Medical Business, LLC into the thriving company it is today.
Val’s story is one of resilience, empowerment, and the power of believing in yourself, even when the odds are stacked against you. As a woman who refused to let life’s challenges defeat her, she now empowers others through her business, helping new practices set up for success.
Val Bassi is the definition of grace under pressure. Her journey is proof that no matter how difficult the road may seem, with the heart of a lioness, you can conquer anything.
